Nutrition FAQs
What are nutrition supplements?
Nutrition supplements are not food. They are taken to augment your regular diet and enhance some aspect of your life. Common examples include sleep aids, weight loss pills, energy supplements, and vitamins. Nutrition supplements emerged in the second half of the twentieth century as a solution for dietary concerns.
When should I consider nutrition supplements?
Always take nutrition supplements proscribed by your doctor. When considering over the counter nutrition supplements to combat a medical problem- such as issues losing weight, trouble sleeping, or inability to put on muscle through working out- attempt to fix the problem via natural methods before resorting to a supplement. Vitamins and multivitamins are an exception to this rule of thumb. They are not designed to combat any illness and merely enhance your bodily functioning.
What difference does it make what kind of diet I use?
Statistically speaking, diets do not vary much in terms of mass effectiveness. However this is because different diets are designed to combat different causes of obesity. So the important thing is to find a diet that works for you. When choosing a diet, look for the habits you have that are possible problem areas. Do you eat a lot of fatty foods? Do you not exercise? Do you eat carbohydrates with every meal? Is your calorie intake above that necessary to maintain your activity level? Depending on where you are having issues different diets will be more effective to you.
What role does fitness play in my nutritional needs?
Fitness is extremely important to your overall health. Whether you are trying to gain muscle, lose weight, or just keep active and stay healthy fitness is vital. In muscle building, your muscles will not grow new tissue if you do not exercise them. In weight loss you have no way to burn the fat if you do not exercise. And being active is self explanatory: it requires activity! So no matter what you are trying to do, fitness will be essential to your success.
