Nutrition Books
Nutrition books have been a fad in America for decades. The most recent fad diet was started by Dr. Atkins. He advocated a low-carbohydrate diet in which the amount of fat and calories you eat are not as closely watched as in a traditional diet. This diet sparked a national craze as people started “dieting” on steaks, rich soups, and other traditionally forbidden dishes.
And there is the thing you need to watch in nutrition books. While most nutrition books are written by well meaning individuals who want to help others lose weight, gain muscle and energy, or just be healthier individuals; some are just out to make a buck. The Atkins diet as put forth by Dr. Atkins is much different from the twisted form that many in the low-carbohydrate movement have adopted.
So when reading nutrition books, check the author’s credentials. If the author has a background in the health sciences odds are your book is a solid resource. However if your book was written by someone with a bachelor’s in journalism and a masters degree in marketing, you should probably think twice about the “insider tips” the author tells you will change your life.
