Nutrition Program
A nutrition program is a schedule or guide for what a person should eat. There are programs for just about any niche imaginable. The FDA releases guides on what Americans should be eating in the form of recommended daily amounts, the food pyramid, and dietary guidelines. Schools have the school lunch programs, which ensure children have the food they need to grow in school. And there are weight loss nutrition programs. These programs assess a fee, and provide guidance and support for those looking to lose weight
Weight loss programs are the type most commonly associated with the term nutrition program. The approach of these programs differs based on what the stated goals of the individual are. Some programs meet in AA style meetings to offer members a chance to talk about the difficulties in sticking to a diet. Almost all hand out goals in the form of calorie ceilings. Some even provide over the counter medication to participants to help curb their hunger.
Other types of nutrition programs are overseen by a doctor. These are most often programs for professional athletics. Unlike a weight loss program athletic nutrition programs have a minimum caloric intake and involve things such as protein and amino acid supplements. For instance the swimmer Michael Phelps is famously reported to consume 8,000 calories a day. These programs are overseen by a doctor to ensure the safety of the participants.
